On this privately guided shore excursion from Marseille, your private English-speaking guide will take you to a lovely town east of Avignon called Isle-sur-Sorgue. The town is called “the Venice of Provence” because of the many canals and branches of the Sorgue River that has its source just a mile away, in Vaucluse. The town is located in the agricultural valley of Comtat Venaisson at the foot of the Vaucluse mountains.

On Sunday morning you can enjoy one of the most charming markets of Provence stretching along the boulevards lining the Sorgue River. Here you can find all the things that make Provence so special: local herbs, cheese, olive oil, soap, fabric and more.

Antique lovers and art collectors will be gratified by the nearly 300 permanent antique dealers and second hand shops here. L'Isle sur la Sorgue hosts antiques' fairs at Easter and over the August 15th holiday that have given a worldwide reputation to this small city. More than 500 antique dealers and second hand dealers gather here to show their treasures to customers from all over the world.

One of the highlights of a visit to Isle-sur-Sorgue is antique hunting. There are countless treasures to be had from the town’s nearly 300 antique dealers and secondhand shops. The town hosts a festival on August 15 every year that draws more than 500 dealers from all over the world to sell their unique antiques.

In the afternoon, you will drive towards the beautiful Senanque Abbey, considered one of the purest examples of Cistercian architecture. Today, a community of Cistercian monks still live in this 12th century abbey. After a photo stop here, you will head back to the port.
