DAY 2:
Vatican and Ancient Rome Tours, Overnight
in Rome
Early in the morning, our group meet our local professional tour
guide for the Vatican tour. We will immerse
ourselves in the art, history and religion
of the smallest state in the world, The
Vatican City. You will visit St. Peter’s
Basilica, the Sistine Chapel and the Vatican
Museum.
The Vatican Museum's art collections, assembled
over the course of the centuries, are still
the most important in the world. You will see
the recently restored Sistine Chapel, home
to Michelangelo's Last Judgment frescoes. You
will tour St. Peter’s Basilica and view Michelangelo's
famous Pieta, Bernini's amazing Baldacchino.
A very special Italian feast is planned for
lunch.
After our group lunch, our tour guide will lead our walking tour of
ancient Rome. We will begin with a visit to
the Pantheon, Italy’s best-preserved dome and
the biggest in Europe until the Renaissance.
You will then see and hear about fascinating stories
about the Colosseum, perhaps the finest surviving
example of ancient Roman architectural engineering.
You will see the Forum, once the administration,
business and commercial center of Ancient Rome.
There are numerous sites within the Forum:
numerous temples, basilicas, arches and more.
Other sites of Ancient Rome include the Arch
of Constantine and Piazza del Campidoglio,
designed by Michelangelo.
You are free the rest of the day and for dinner.

on your own. If you would like, your tour manager can escort
you to Rome's famous sights like the Trevi Fountain,
Piazza Navona, Piazza di Spagna and more. You
may separate from the group at any time visit a museum or shop.
You may want to enjoy leisure time sitting at an outdoor cafe in one or Rome's many beautiful piazzas.
Lunch and dinner on your own. Let your tour manager know, if
you want company. As
always, she/he is available if you want
company. (B)
DAY
4:
Guided Tours of Pompeii & Herculaneum, Overnight in Sorrento
After breakfast, we'll check out of our hotel
and travel to Sorrento, our next home base, positioning us for our tours of Sorrento, Capri and the beautiful Amalfi
Coast.
On the way to Sorrento, we'll tour the lost
city of Pompeii, one of the many highlights of
your escorted tour of Italy. Thirty feet
of hot mud and volcanic ash buried this Roman
city completely when Mt. Vesuvius erupted
in 79 A.D. We will tour this once-prosperous
city, established in 12th century B.C., with our licensed tour guide. You
will see villas, baths, storefronts, houses,
pizza parlors, forum and other artifacts
from Pompeii’s heyday. Our tour of Italy also takes us to Herculaneum, an ancient Roman town, which was also buried by Mt. Vesuvius during this eruption.
Group pizza lunch is planned. In the evening, we'll stroll in lovely Sorrento,
a charming city perched on a bluff overlooking
the Mediterranean sea. Sorrento's impressive
seaside cliffs and luxury hotels have attracted
such famous personalities as Luciano Pavarotti.
(B, L)
DAY 5:
Positano, Farm Visit, Amalfi, Ravello, Overnight in Sorrento
This morning our group will tour a farm where we will also have the opportunity to see how mozzarella cheese is made. We'll also taste this wonderful cheese along; a light lunch is planned. We will also visit beautiful Ravello, situated high above the Amalfi Coast offering picture-perfect views of the town and the coastline below.
After our group will also tour the breathtakingly
beautiful resort town of Positano. This
little town offers many photo and shopping
opportunities, between its multi-colored
houses clinging to the cliff face overlooking
the bay, and the fashionable boutiques and
cobblers’ shops along its pedestrian main
street. From Positano we will head to beautiful Ravello, situated high above the Amalfi Coast offering picture-picture views of the town and the coastline below.
On the way back to Positano, we will have a short stop in Amalfi, a UNESCO World Heritage site, on the gulf of Salerno. The 11th century Baroque duomo (cathedral) is at the top of a high staircase and it overlooks the main square, the perfect place to sit and enjoy the town.
We'll return to Sorrento in the evening.

DAY
6:
Capri Excursion, Farewell Dinner, Overnight
in Sorrento
Today is the last day of our Rome and Amalfi Coast tour. Our group tours Capri for the day. After breakfast, we will
take a ferry from Sorrento to reach the picturesque
island of Capri.
A popular resort since Roman times, this beautiful
island is a joy to explore on foot. As you
explore this gorgeous island, you may visit
historic sites like Villa Jovis (Tiberius Villa),
Villa San Michele (a grand mansion), Church
of Santa Maria del Soccorso and Charterhouse
of San Giacomo, which was a Carthusian monastery.
You’ll have time to make some one-of-a-kind
purchases in Capri’s world-class shops, and
take in the breathtaking views from fun outdoor
cafes.
Tonight is our last night together; a wonderful
farewell dinner is planned. (B, D)
