This privately guided day trip takes you into the heart of Cathar country, the Cathars being a Gnostic Christian sect dating from the 11th century that challenged the Catholic doctrine of its day. The first stop of this private tour will be historic Montségur, the castle symbolizing the resistance of the Cathars that occurred in the 13th century. Finally overtaken in 1244, more than 200 Cathars were burnt here at the end of the 10-month siege.

At Montségur you can hike up the “Pog,” the nearly 4,000-foot-high rock (good physical condition and walking shoes necessary), to visit the castle ruins. After your visit, you will drive to Foix to enjoy some free time (optional visit of the 11th century castle here) and lunch (not included) before the trip back to Toulouse.
