A UNESCO World Heritage site, the historical city centre of Bordeaux has much to offer. Your walking tour of Bordeaux will take you to visit many of Bordeaux’s Renaissance-era architectural wonders, including the Grand Theatre, the Tourny alleys and fountain, Quinconces Square (the second large city square in Europe), St. Andrews Cathedral, and Town Hall. Your private tour of Bordeaux will also take you inside the town’s Grand Theatre and wine museum, where you will boost your wine IQ in anticipation of the next day’s wine tastings in St. Emilion.
You will have plenty of time to explore the city on your own after your private walking tour.

Day 2 – Bordeaux Day Trip: St. Emilion With Wine Tasting, Garonne Villages

Today your day trip from Bordeaux will take you to charming town of St. Emilion, founded by a Breton monk in the 8th century. Here you can walk along the original city walls and climb the steep cobblestone streets exploring wine cellars, artisan studios, and art galleries. You can also pay a visit to the famous underground church carved out of solid limestone, whose sheer volume makes it the largest of Europe. You may also want to sample St. Emilion’s hallmark dessert, a sweet mini-cake called cannelé shaped like a fountain. You will round out your visit to St. Emilion with a guided tour and wine tasting.
Next, your day trip from Bordeaux takes you to a tour of Garonne, where you will explore charming villages and some of the most interesting architecture in the area. After a drive along the Garonne River, lined with mansions and castles, you will reach St. Macaire. This medieval village stands apart for its carefully preserved architectural heritage -- city walls, gates, and houses – giving the village the feel of a place where time stands still. After St. Macaire, you will continue to La Sauve Majeure to discover one of the most spectacular monuments of the region. The Benedictine abbey here, dating from 1079, is considered of the most beautiful Romanesque landmarks in southern France.

You will return to Bordeaux in the late afternoon.

Day 3 – Leisure Day and return to Paris

Today you will have the day to explore Bordeaux on your own. Your guide will be happy to make recommendations according to your interests. There is Les Quais, where you can enjoy a walk on the shores of the Garonne or a ferry boat ride. Art and history lovers may want to visit the Musee D'Art Contemporain, the town’s modern art museum, or Musee D'Aquitaine, featuring Gallo-Roman statues and relics dating back 25,000 years. You can also have a picnic lunch in the town’s Public Gardens.

You will return to Paris by train at the end of the day.
