Your Provence private tour will take you to Orange, Pont du Gard, Chateauneuf du Pape, St. Remy, Les Baux and Arles.
This Provence private tour encompasses the
best of Provence, including ancient Roman architecture,
vineyards and historic villages. You will begin your private tour of Provence with a tour of Orange, a historic
town originally founded by the Romans in the 1st B.C. You will see its Arc de Triomphe
and magnificent ancient Roman Theater.
Next your Provence tour will take a scenic drive through the
vineyards of Chateauneuf du Pape. Your
tour guide will provide commentary en route about
the concept of terroir, the different grape
varieties, the vinification and the aging cellars;
wine tasting session included.
Next on your Provence tours is a tour of Pont
du Gard. This huge, perfectly preserved Roman
aqueduct supplied running water to the city
of Nimes and beyond. This marvel of
engineering work has endured two millennia,
attracting scientists, artists and visitors
from all over the world. This magnificent monument
is situated at the rim of Gardon
Canyon. From its heights, one can admire the
landscape of the valley and follow the flow
of the Gard River, tributary of the Rhône.
Finally, you will discover two unique villages as you tour Saint Rémy and Les Baux de Provence. The charming
town of St. Remy is known for its well-preserved
Roman ruins, including a
grand arch and a mausoleum. Located on the
slopes of the Alpilles mountains, St. Remy
will charm you with its elegant squares, restored
homes and ancient fountains.
Next your tour of Provence will take you to Les Baux de Provence, known
for its medieval hilltop castle and village carved right out of the cliff face.
Les Baux has an incredible museum called the
Cathedral of Images, “housed” in an abandoned
limestone quarry. A slideshow of famous
artworks set to music is projected onto 20-foot
walls using a series of 50 projectors, with
a symphonic soundtrack. This breathtaking attraction
blends the best of culture and
nature.
This private tour of Provence will conclude with the 2,000-year-old city of Arles walking tour. Here you will visit sights (Langlois Bridge, Café
la Nuit, Sanatorium) made famous by Van Gogh. The artist painted some 300 pieces during
the 15 months he lived in Arles, making his stay here the artist’s most productive
period.
